The 24 – year old Sophie Heleen Dierssen from ’s Hertogenbosch (NL) graduated in the summer of 2014 from the HKU Fashion Design department in Utrecht (NL). With her collection “The things you cannot see are the things worth looking at” she designed a series of seven total white outfits. As she describes it herself, this collection is about the fact that the first impression mostly brings us loads of expectations. “Things look mostly different at first sight. After you decide to take a closer look you will find out something which might have a total different look or meaning then you might actually thought in advance. The brain complements this by creating it’s own conclusion but that doesn’t mean that’s the actual way of how things are meant”. That’s why she chose to create a total white collection, because in her opinion white is literally a blank canvas which creates no distraction and it gives the brain an option to see what it actually sees.

Now she finished her degree she takes the time to figure out which direction to go. One of the things she would love to do in the future is designing her own collection of jackets and coats, with a preference for a unisex collection. She wouldn’t mind doing this in collaboration with another designer. To the question which designer she would love to collaborate with, she answers with a smile “If anything would be possible I would really love to work with Rad Hourani, because of his strong designs and the huge inspiration he is for my own work”.

Well Sophie, if you can dream it, you can do it!
