When I was in Valencia last year I was blown away by this lovely city. It’s a warming, beautiful city. A huge benefit is that there is a small old city centre and there are wonderful beaches. Another surprise was this modern, clean and delicious bakery: PanPan. I don’t think Spain is well known for their bread, but PanPan nailed it. The bread is crispy, fresh and also the pastries are just perfect. We even bought some bread to take with us, since we were on a road trip. I also was surprised by the modern brand identity. After some research I found out that multidisciplinary design studio Rocío Martinavarro (now named Mayuscula) created the identity of PanPan. The identity is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional ear of wheat, the basic ingredient of bread, to form a pattern that is easily recognizable. This project was selected by Monocle retail stars, as one of the best 25 international retail businesses of 2010. If you are in Valencia and you like bread of brand design go visit PanPan!
